This week we had the pleasure to talked to the beautiful and rising talent Naz, an Iranian/Australian DJ and producer with powerful releases on Anjunabeats and a passion for the underground scene.
Her production style is driven by mood and emotion, often resulting in different and eclectic sounds. Her goal is to ‘make people feel’ through the powerful language of music while pushing boundaries with genres and style and sound design. And if you still don’t know Naz, here’s an excellent opportunity to get to know a little bit about her music and her artist vision.
Welcome to WeRave Music! This is our exclusive interview with the up and coming Iranian/Australian producer Naz. Enjoy!
Hey Naz, first of all thank you so much for having us for an interview. It’s amazing talking to you and to start this interview, where in the world are you and how your current living country influences your music taste and direction?
Naz: Heya! I’m currently hanging out in New York and loving it! I think every country and scene has it’s own unique flavour and it’s been cool learning what that is, it definitely influences my music taste and direction as I find myself wanting to make sure I’m delivering not only something that stays true to my sound and what I love, but also what that crowd will love and vibe with… which is different everywhere you go!
When do you first discovered your passion for electronic music?
Naz: It really kicked in when I started going underage clubbing haha. Prior to that I definitely loved listening to electronic music from a pretty young age but it wasn’t until I heard that music in a club setting that something inside of me just kind of clicked!
Who are your electronic music heroes?
Naz: Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode, Underworld & Sasha just to name a few.
How had the start to the year been for you and what are your musical plans for the coming months?
Naz: Start of the year has been pretty amazing, got to be direct support for Tale Of Us which was a massive dream come true, had Miami Music Week, supported Arty on his Alpha 9 tour and just had a remix come out on Enhanced Music. Currently planning some big changes and new stuff for the coming months/years which is keeping me extremely excited and motivated!

Your last track ‘Pluto’ is a very good club banger. Could you tell us about that track and if possible what the idea it came from?
Naz: ‘Pluto’ initially started out as a garage type beat that I was just playing around with when I was in lockdown with Covid during Christmas of 2021… I then wanted something I could play in the club and in my sets and thus the version as we know it was born.

Another track by you that caught our attention is ‘Underwater’, released via Anjunabeats. How is it like to work with Above & Beyond’s record label and how it started behind the scenes?
Naz: ‘Underwater’ is a special one for me… it was my first collaboration with an extremely talented singer songwriter, Deanna Leigh… and I remember I started making this tune live on Twitch during lockdown not knowing where it would go or what would happen to it.
When the opportunity came about to send demos to Anjunabeats, I had literally just wrapped up that track that morning so I sent it through and it got signed and that was my first release and introduction to Anjunabeats. It’s been great working with A&B and everyone at Anjuna HQ, they really become like your family and I’ve made some amazing life long friends.

Among the artists of the new electronic music generation, is there anyone that catches your attention?
Naz: There is so many amazing artists now it’s really hard to just name a few! I think the new generation is really being led right now with people like John Summit and Dom Dolla which is so inspiring and amazing to see, I’m a massive fan of their work and what they have achieved. A lot of really cool upcoming rising artists as well, Blake.08 is a fellow Aussie who just recently had his EP debut on Anjunadeep and is someone to definitely keep an eye on, his stuff is dope!
Is there some electronic music show that really blew your mind and could you name it?
Naz: I think Creamfields last year and for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it was my first ever festival booking and I was just pinching myself the whole time that I got to play there.
Secondly, I got to go see some of my favourite artists play and I was with my best friends and the vibe was just unmatched. I may or may not have cried watching Artbat haha.
In your opinion what is the most exciting thing happening in dance music universe currently?
Naz: Something that really excites me is I feel like genres are becoming blurred and less important… I may be wrong but I’m seeing a lot of DJ’s and producers be really fluid in the stuff they make and play which is amazing to see because quite frankly, I miss the days where it was all referred to as ‘dance music’ and not a million sub genres!
Thank you so much again for this interview Naz. It was amazing and I wish you many inspirations in your next releases! Please, do you have some message to electronic music fans around the globe?
Naz: Thank you so much for having me! My message for electronic music fans around the globe is to just keep on having fun and enjoying the music and making memories that will last a lifetime with your friends and family and people who you can connect with through the music.
That was our nice conversation with Naz, one of the hottest and emergent names in electronic music with a massve support from Anjunabeats and who has been growing with new amazing releases.
