Hello Yoan-Idan, thanks for talking to us today. It’s great to have you here! Where in the world are you right now, and how has 2024 been for you so far?

thnx my god: Hello. I am more than glad to be here!

Well… Actually this first question… Very heavy question on my heart, uff I will share it even if it is difficult for me. Well 2024 was the most complex and difficult year I have ever been through. I lost my father, grandmother, uncle and aunt in just one year, which made this year full of rollercoaster of emotions. I experienced many ups and downs, and found myself very confused about what would come next. however, thanks to music I have found a place of comfort and release of pain. Music is the right way for me to vent the pain I have, instead of causing myself more pain because of the existing pain.

How did you first get into electronic music, and what drew you to Progressive House and Melodic Techno? Do these genres hold a special meaning for you?

thnx my god: I was first introduced to electronic music in 2009 thanks to my older brother, kevin. I was a 14-year-old boy who came home from school and heard the music through my older brother’s speakers at full volume.

something about the energies attracted me, but I didn’t really understand what I was listening to. my real infatuation with electronic music happened when my brother first played me the music of deadmau5 and Kaskade, Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Eric Prydz. the pure melodies and magic of these tracks moved me a lot. in particular, two of the tracks that particularly influenced me were ‘Brazil’ and ‘I Remember’ by deadmau5 and Kaskade, they were like medicine for me in hard times.

This music feelings opened a door for me to the world of progressive house and melodic techno, where I found my way to vent my emotions. it became an integral part of my life. my older brother then decided to install his first daw – I mean cubase, and start producing electronic music for a long period of time so I had a certain habit as a younger brother to sit close to him and watch how he produce electronic music.

While my older brother was in a music session he would sometimes go buy things at the store or was in the middle of some arrangement outside the house, my older brother don’t turn off his computer, the daw was open with a synthesizer in the background (refx nexus), I being so curious to try, I saw it like a computer game at first. I just start playing around with some presets. after my older brother would come home and find out that I had actually touched his computer and his music project, he would be angry. nowadays I can understand him perfectly why he was angry, seriously haha.

For me progressive house and techno melodies have a special meaning for me. they are not only musical styles that I enjoy, but also an important tool in managing my emotions and life. from 2015 to 2021 I researched and deepened in the field of music production. let me explain, all the major artists help each other, those who know excellently like dr. dre and eminem or better fit to say – armin van buuren, w&w and hardwell helped each other a lot in the past, also martin garrix and jay hardway helped each other, it’s openly revealed and there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s all a joint effort. why not?

Same for me, in the same I produce bigroom house music, we simply directed us with ours projects and collaborated in order to learn from work methods on mixing, sound. It’s important for me to clarify that the help we received each other is completely legal, sadly some people have forgotten that the musical field is about art and free love and not unnecessary hatred. our job is to connect everyone, to unite everyone. right?

From 2022 to 2024 I came with experience, but I felt the need to take production seriously. I am opened my eyes, I did reinforcements and for several consecutive months took individual lessons remotely, many thanks to edward that I found him on a daw/flstudio forum, he gave me many tools and depth of thought – what to do next in my production?

I was really confused in the same time after my father was on coma, yes its rough for me to tell you… uff ok… ok. hold on. I promised him only one thing with tears in my eyes before he left me forever. “maybe i’m not the perfect son? maybe one day you will be proud of me up there? I seriously don’t care how complicated it is, I don’t care how difficult this journey will be, but at least this time? It’s time to prove to myself what i’m capable”.

The first thing I put is to be exposed to real loyal local producers who will never sell you for a better offer than you. yes I had some “friends” like that, comes in your home for eat and sleep with you and a moment later will forget about you in the future, just for his own personal interest. I don’t know if I can call them old friends? fake friends?

Nowdays I dont really care about it anymore, after all this pain from losing my dad and I lost my trust for people, extremely make me stable and confident person and music producet, the difficulties I experienced strengthened me emotionally and gave me the ability to help others who are in the same place I was before. now I am a guide, when I have the strength and ability, I want to help with all my heart anyone who needs it.

Your recent release, ‘Taste Of Hope,’ on Natura Viva, is a beautiful progressive house gem from last October. Could you tell us more about the inspiration behind it and the feedback you’ve received so far?

thnx my god: Umm, I started working on ‘Taste of Hope’ in March. Actually, my references were from different genres—not really my comfort zone. I thought about fantasy music with a mixture of emotive OST soundtracks. This idea encouraged me to think of something original that blends musical worlds and cultures.

The main inspiration for the track came from the difficult year I had after my father passed away and I saw my mother break down. I felt a strong need to find hope—a belief that things would get better. I decided to channel all those feelings into the music and work on the track from the bottom of my heart.

In April, I sent the track to the Italian record label Natura Viva, and they really connected with it. They decided to sign the track and release it in October, along with several tracks from artists worldwide. The feedback was positive and exciting, and the track managed to connect people and convey a message of hope and faith.

Speaking of your upcoming release, ‘Touch The Sky,’ are you excited about this one? How was it collaborating with David Shimmer, Tech-no Yoid, and Noise88? Any behind-the-scenes stories you can share?

thnx my god: When talking about my upcoming release, ‘Touch the Sky’, I’m definitely excited about this track. In fact, ‘Touch the Sky’ happened so quickly and challengingly that it’s without a doubt one of my favorite tracks.

The connection began when I sent David Shimmer an initial idea of an exciting breakdown with chords. David decided to work on this idea with me, and we agreed to meet up. He came over at noon, and we decided to have lunch at a restaurant first. David invited me to a BBQ restaurant for meat and salads, and while we were discussing our collaboration, the idea struck me to finish the track and send it to Stellar Waves Records.

After lunch, we returned to my apartment and worked together on the finishing touches. From there, the idea of adding bright vocals to complement the atmosphere emerged. We sent the updated version to Stellar Waves Records, and they loved the track.

Noise88, known as an artist with nearly a million followers on Instagram and his platform, decided to join the track and add his magical touch. Together, we finalized everything, and that’s how ‘Touch the Sky’ was born—a track with a deep message.

When we considered releasing the track, we thought, why not release all the tracks that David Shimmer and I have been producing together over the past few months as an EP?

About Tech-No Yoid—it’s actually a side project of mine that focuses purely on techno. Not melodic techno or deep techno, just techno. Tech-No Yoid is a space for me to release music that I don’t feel fully connected to in terms of vibes but still receives positive feedback from friends in the industry.

Who are your biggest influences or heroes in electronic music?

thnx my god: Ok… My biggest influences and heroes in electronic music are definitely Above & Beyond, deadmau5, and Armin van Buuren. I am deeply inspired by their music.

When I hear moving melodies like the ones they create, I feel they touch my soul and heal the pain from this life. There is something in their melodies that touches the heart, evokes emotion and sadness, but at the same time also gives strength.

This strength encourages me to never give up, no matter how hard times get. These melodies connect me to my feelings and provide me with a way to deal with all difficulties. They are like a comforting hand on the shoulder, reminding me that there is always hope and that it is possible to find light even in the darkest times.

What’s your dream collaboration? Is there an artist you’d love to work with?

thnx my god: Well, my dream collaboration is definitely with Zonderling or deadmau5. These artists have been huge inspirations for me, and working with them would be a huge dream come true.

However, I am always on the lookout for talented artists who may not have a big name but are incredibly skilled and share a similar vision. I believe that talent and a shared mindset are what truly matter, and a successful collaboration can come from anywhere, regardless of the artist’s fame.

What are your current top three tracks that you love to include in your DJ sets?

thnx my god:

  1. Pedro Mercado & thnx my god – ID (Unreleased)
  2. deadmau5 – Input Output (i_o Tribute)
  3. Above & Beyond ft. Richard Bedford – Heart Of Stone
  4. [Bonus] Zonderling – Variant

What’s your take on AI in electronic music? Have you used AI in any of your recent productions? If so, how did it influence the results?

thnx my god: Wait. My opinion of AI in electronic music is very positive. It is a powerful tool that can add another dimension to productions and provide creative inspiration for your next track.

I mean, you can write some lyrics, take only the acapella you got there, without the instrumental! That acapella can achieve an excellent flow and avoid blocking your muse. David Shimmer and I have used AI acapellas in some of our productions, such as the acapella of ‘Touch the Sky’ and ‘Under Ground.’

An excellent tip I can give is to start an idea in your DAW, set a scale and BPM, write some chords and melodies, render the first version, and transfer the file to one of the AI sites. From there, you can write some lyrics that fit into the vibes of your idea.

It is important to note that the lyrics, melody, and entire track were written by you, and you used AI legally only for the acapella, not the instruments. Certain sites can give amazing results for better acapella sources, for example, AI kits can bring excellent quality.

Thank you for your time, Yoan-Idan! Wishing you all the best, and we look forward to catching up again soon.

‘Touch the Sky’ will be available on November 22 via Stellar Waves Records. Download here.
